Audi Key Types We Replace and Program
Audi has used several generations of key technology across its model range, and each type requires a distinct approach. Older models — roughly pre-2007 — typically used basic transponder keys, where a chip inside the key head must be programmed to match your vehicle's immobilizer. Mid-generation Audis introduced remote head keys that combine a physical blade with integrated lock and unlock buttons. More recent models use proximity smart keys, sometimes called Advanced Key or comfort access fobs, which allow push-button starting without inserting anything into the ignition. Understanding exactly which system your Audi uses is the first step our technicians take before any cutting or programming begins.
We also handle switchblade-style flip keys, high-security laser-cut (Tibbe or HU66 profile) keys that require specialized cutting equipment, and the newer blade-and-fob combinations found on current Q and A-series vehicles. If you have a second key that still works, our technician can use it to streamline programming — but a full replacement from scratch (what the industry calls a zero-key situation) is equally within our capability. No matter the scenario, we bring everything needed to complete the job at your location, whether that's a Scarborough shopping centre parking lot or a condo garage in Liberty Village.
